Nearly a third of children in the Western Cape live in poverty, which is deeply concerning and highlights the significant challenges faced by many families in the region. Poverty has wide-ranging implications on children's well-being, affecting their access to necessities such as food, shelter, and education.
At Iliso Care Society, the goal of the early childhood development programs is to nurture and educate 65 disadvantaged children between the ages of three and seven, ensuring they receive the care and support they need during their early years of development. Through nutritious meals, modern curriculum, and constant encouragement we aim to foster a safe space for the children to reach their highest potential.
By investing in early childhood development through education, healthcare, and other initiatives that prioritize the well-being of children, we can create a more inclusive and compassionate society where every child has the chance to thrive.
Recognizing the disparity in access to educational resources, Iliso launched its Toy Library, offering children access to a diverse array of educational toys. These toys not only entertain but also serve as powerful tools for learning and development, nurturing intellectual, cognitive, physical, and emotional skills essential for growth.
Recognizing the crucial role of literacy in shaping young minds, Iliso has also established a library within Khayelitsha, meeting the high demand for books in the community. Here, school children flock to complete their homework, guided by dedicated assistants who offer support and encouragement.
